Bike ride: Costa Mesa to Long beach

I love to ride my bike and love what this does for my health and the environment. I have decided to ride a lot more lately instead of driving, especially on trips that are 5 miles or less (one way). I am not going to convince you to ride your bike, but here is a little fact sheet if you are interested. With more riding comes more rides, long rides. I recently rode to San Diego with some friends, sorry didn’t take a photo. But I did on a little trip up PCH with my friend Justin to Long Beach, a fun 20 or so miles. Always wanted to make that ride and see how long it would take. Here are a couple shots.

Gun laws in the UK are very strict and few people get the chance to fire one off in the country. When I first found out Saul was coming I asked if he had any interest in shooting a gun. I think that was the second reason why he came to visit California, the first being a wedding. Usually I go out to the desert with my dad and brother, but due to certain circumstances and last minute planning, we had to opt for the Los Angeles Gun Club. I have been shooting guns since I was a little boy and have never been to a shooting range, so this was a new experience for me too. Here are some photos of our experience.

Summer Shorts

Summer in California (to me) means wearing nothing but shorts. This summer has not been so hot, literally. I try to make the best of it when it is the best, but sometimes you just have to work. Here is a photo of me soaking in the sun on the beach after a little dip. I plan to have a lot more days like these if the sunshine prevails.

Tame adventure in a Wild animal park

I randomly went to the Orange County Zoo with a couple friends recently and got to see some coyotes and roadrunners. I never heard of this zoo and was just wanting to get out of the house. The zoo is quite small and very cheap. I am pretty sure all of the animals are rescued which is great, but most of them are local creatures. If you live nearby, I suggest you go and have a nice picnic in the surrounding area and visit the zoo to see some of the wild animals.

I don’t particularly like taking pictures at the zoo but here are a couple.

SFMOMA

On my last day in San Francisco I went to Philz Coffee, had the best cup of life in my life, and then went to the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. The SFMOMA had advertisements everywhere for the Richard Avedon exhibit, which I wanted to see. This was a truly inspiring day for me, Richard Avedon’s work was amazing and there was almost all photography exhibits in the other parts of the museum. This really got my gears turning and made me excited to get back to shooting what I want to shoot, more fashion and editorial type work.

I am almost always a fan of museum design and architecture. I rarely ever take photos of something displayed and am most amused by people looking at “art.”I have my own opinions on art, and I don’t like a lot of it. I will glance at it, but have no interest in reading every description. I will not pretend to understand it or try to if it doesn’t interest me. I prefer to go to museums alone but like to have a friend along. On one occasion a friend of mine practically ran through the Guggenheim in NYC and said he didn’t see any art he liked, but truly admired the architecture while making penny wishes into the fountain several stories below. I liked that about him. Art is supposed to be fun so relax. Here are several photos I took at the museum.

If you noticed, every photo except for the first one, the main center of attention is in the same exact place. thats all. Black and white soon, I just developed it and it looks primo!

A little drive

I like to drive, it is kind of my escape and way of getting away from it all. I also love an efficient public transportation system without the need of a car. Living in New York was difficult for me because of the lack of room to roam, although there is lots of beauty outside the city, you would have to take a train or bus to go. That made it difficult to fly by the seat of your pants, and that is something that thrills me. Being back in California makes so much sense to me, however I am still trying to figure out where I want to base my career.

I decided to make a little drive up the state to visit some friends and enjoy a little taste of their local life. I stayed in Monterey, San Francisco/Oakland/Berkley and also stopped for a night in Santa Barbara. San Francisco is such a beautiful city, I love all the trees and the clean air. It is really a nice balance between NY and LA. Not sure if I want to live there, but this trip was exactly what I needed. Here is a little photo story of my journey. I need to develop my black and white film, so look for those later.

New Light

Sometimes after looking at another artist’s work, I see my own work in a new light. During my latest photography experience, I played around with some low light situations and kind of enjoyed the outcome. Looking at Ryan McGinley’s photos, I decided that these photos were worth posting; although, I think Mr. McGinley does it better.
