Influential Visual Artists

Published on April 9, 2008

As a visual artist I definitely receive inspiration from other artist and look to them for ideas. I look at colors, composition and subject matter. I don’t think this is copying because no matter how hard I try to look like another photographer, It will still have a little of me in it. Kinda like what C.S. Lewis says “Even in literature and art, no man who bothers about originality will ever be original: whereas if you simply try to tell the truth (without caring twopence how often it has been told before) you will, nine times out of ten, become original without ever having noticed it.” So here are some of my favorite artists; photographers, painters and film makers:

I love Smiths composition more than anything his black and white tones are lovely, I saw him speak once and I also think he is very intelligent.
Peter Lindbergh

I think Peter tells some of the best fashion stories, photographs women beautifully and has amazing sets and black and white tones.
Thomas Campbell

I love how creative Thomas Campbell is, he isn’t afraid to try anything, he has a careless attitude and does what he wants cause he wants to. His stuff isn’t technically perfect and thats bad ass. so simple, his paintings are amazing too.
David Hockney

I love how still and straight on his portraits are, so simple yet so much going on. The posing of people is kinda awkward and I love it
Wes Anderson

His movies are so beautiful to me, not just the humor but the honesty and the way the characters interact. Robert Yeoman translates Anderson’s films magnificently. I love the compositions.
Paolo Roversi

I love his colors, his focus, his lighting. I love Paolo’s Photography so much. He plays with so many cameras, always experimenting and even invented his own lighting style. I love his work.
Of course there are lots out there I also appreciate but these are some of my favorites.

dude… thank you for sharing! I LOVE seeing who other people are getting inspired by.

I’m constantly yearning for inspiration, but rarely spend enough time looking for it :-(
