I recently had the pleasure of photographing the Montoya Family; Brandon, Anika, and their son Cannon who is 8 months old. I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted going into this and Brandon and his wife were more than happy to give me complete creative freedom without anything too cheesy portrait like. I haven't shot too many family's but this was very rewarding and I enjoyed it a lot. I hope you enjoy these photos as much as I do.
After taking some photos for the band Roulette, I finally photographed the band themselves. We snuck on to the Ritz Carlton of Laguna Niguel for a few shots. These are my favorites.
I will definitely be photographing them again in the future so look out for more posts!
So I did this photo shoot for LDB Productions, and it isn't the typical stuff I like to take photos of but I did it anyway. The shoot was supposed to be some girls and this racing truck, here are my favorite and least embarrassing photos, (they are mostly out-takes). Maybe you will be amused.
really I just love the natural light in most of the shots
This is Jessie, previously I had only stolen a few photos of this beauty. But on this day Jessie was my muse and my underwater camera was finally put to the test. Film is Tri-X 400. These are some of my favorite shots from the day.
I definitely will be playing with this camera some more. And I think I need to add some color to my life. Happy Earth Day!
This is Jack, he recently asked me if my camera worked because he hasn't seen any of the photos I have snapped of him. I have since e-mailed him all I possessed and decided to post this. I have mixed feelings about the photo. I love the orb of light and the tones, but I am not sure about the beer about to be shot-gunned. Whatever it's candid. Film is Kodak Tri-X 400.
Sometimes I take photos of people without them knowing or randomly to catch a moment. Here is a photo I took of my girlfriend Jessie while out on a hike. I don't know about you but there is something I really like about this photo.
Here are some out-takes I took of Roulette while working on this. These are also the last few shots I sent through my Rollei 35 S before it decided to be dropped and die, I hope it is reparable. Film is Delta 100.
After not seeing my friend Chase for at least 2 years we decided to have a nice day together. Here are some of my favorite photos of this unique person.
Chase sits everywhere, whether there is a seat or not
just dropping my board off to get fixed at the upholstery shop
Chase driving while I make sure the unstrapped boards don't fly out the back
the paddle
dry take off
surfboard paddling
out to see we go
my feet
a shot Chase took of me in my Huck Fin pants
I actually fell in the water at the end but I ran out of film so there is no shots of that. All of this was recorded with my Canon A1 (the closest at this point to go underwater for a photo) and on Ilford Delta 100, all apart of my black and white film experiment. Stay tuned for underwater shots and some recent work photos.
I just got a new roll of tape and have started collecting more cardboard from my part time job at Trader Joe's (hooray for health benefits!) So everything you see below is found cardboard with my addition of black tape. I got some white tape recently (new for me). Some of these might make it into the mail some might collect dust. We will see.
As a visual artist I definitely receive inspiration from other artist and look to them for ideas. I look at colors, composition and subject matter. I don't think this is copying because no matter how hard I try to look like another photographer, It will still have a little of me in it. Kinda like what C.S. Lewis says "Even in literature and art, no man who bothers about originality will ever be original: whereas if you simply try to tell the truth (without caring twopence how often it has been told before) you will, nine times out of ten, become original without ever having noticed it." So here are some of my favorite artists; photographers, painters and film makers:
I love how creative Thomas Campbell is, he isn't afraid to try anything, he has a careless attitude and does what he wants cause he wants to. His stuff isn't technically perfect and thats bad ass. so simple, his paintings are amazing too.
His movies are so beautiful to me, not just the humor but the honesty and the way the characters interact. Robert Yeoman translates Anderson's films magnificently. I love the compositions.
I love his colors, his focus, his lighting. I love Paolo's Photography so much. He plays with so many cameras, always experimenting and even invented his own lighting style. I love his work.
Of course there are lots out there I also appreciate but these are some of my favorites.
